Facial Aesthetic Surgery FAQ
In most cases, we are not trying to change your characteristic features, but to restore you to the way you looked when you were younger. Dr. Fink performs conservative procedures that provide natural looking results. Most people should not know that you had surgery but that you look better and refreshed. You should still look like yourself, only younger.
Reconstructive surgery is performed to restore appearance and/or function after it has been altered from a birth or acquired defect or an injury. Cosmetic Surgery is for rejuvenating or enhancing otherwise normal features that are undesirable or may have changed over time. The goal of both is to improve the appearance while maintaining function. The purpose is to improve your sense of well being.
Healing and recovery times vary according to health and other factors. Certain cosmetic procedures require more time. Dr. Fink has put together a menu of techniques that produce natural results while minimizing the recovery times. For most people these procedures require a few days of rest at home along with some daily wound care. Sutures are usually removed within a week to 10 days. Typically, you can return to work within 10-14 days after most swelling has resolved. Temporary or strategic make up can be helpful during this time as long as it is not applied to open areas. Some people are comfortable getting out in public sooner with reduced activity. This can be helpful if you feel a bit tired and down during the healing time. It is helpful to have a good support system of family and friends nearby. It is important to allow 2-3 weeks of healing before vigorous exercise or stretching of the area. To look your best for important events, allow at least a month of recovery time.
Pain and discomfort vary from one person to the next. Typically, it is easily controlled with medication.
Prescription medications are taken as needed during the first week. Many patients find they can switch to tylenol after the first couple of days.
Most of my procedures can be safely performed in an office setting under local anesthesia. I am currently working at a surgery center where we have the option of general anesthesia for those who prefer it.
With all cosmetic procedures, the duration of results vary according to your current age and other lifestyle factors. Although we have turned back the clock on your appearance, your natural aging will continue at your unique rate. The good news is that you will always appear younger than had you not had anything done. You can also learn to slow the aging process by lifestyle changes and return for periodic touch up and enhancement procedures as needed.
Typical sessions are planned for between 1-3 hours depending on your needs. You should expect to be at the facility an additional hour or more to prepare you for the procedure.
Since the procedure combinations are customized for each person, cost will vary. Although the average person may be looking for results that need a few enhancements, we can work within your budget to get you started on your transformation. You can address more areas when it is feasible or as new concerns arise. Eliminating the cost of general anesthesia has helped not only with safety, but has reduced the cost of many procedures. Dr. Fink has safely performed thousands of procedures under local anesthesia and it is his preferred technique in most cases.
General anesthesia is available for additional cost if desired.

A complete list will be provided when your procedures are scheduled. If you are on prescription blood thinners, we will need your physicians assistance with clearing you for surgery.
